Ministry of Defense identified three air targets that flew over airspace of Moldova

Chisinau, Oct. 10 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Defense announced that today between 8:33 - 9:02 the specialized structures identified three air targets that flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.

The statement was made in the context of the Russian air attacks this morning on several cities in Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the first target traveled in the direction: Ciornaia - Moghilev Podolsk (Ukraine) - Rîbnița - Soroca - Moghilev Podolsk. The second: Ciornaia – Voronovka (Ukraine) – Rîbnița – Rudi (Soroca). The third target traveled in the direction: Ciornaia (Ukraine) - Popencu village (Republic of Moldova) - Cineșcauți (Floresti) - in the direction of Ukraine.

"These targets have been confirmed, including by responsible structures from the Defense Ministries of Romania and Ukraine. At the same time, the targets were observed by the monitoring systems of the State Enterprise for the Use of Airspace and Air Traffic Service MOLDATSA. The targets posed a danger to the infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova and in particular, to civil aircraft flying over the country's airspace. The Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with the responsible structures in the country, closely monitors the situation in the region, and strongly condemns the attacks of the Russian army on the cities of Ukraine, resulting in casualties", a press release of the institution reads.

Following the created situation, the head of diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu ordered the urgent summoning of Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov to request explanations from the Russian side in connection with the launch of three cruise missiles from Russian military ships located in Black Sea and which transited the territory of our country in the region of the village of Cobasna and the municipality of Soroca.

"The Republic of Moldova considers this incident as extremely serious and regrettable, which undoubtedly causes additional tensions. Violation of our national airspace is completely unacceptable. The bombing of the neighboring country must be stopped immediately", the press release of the ministry reads.

This morning, Russia launched missiles at the cities of Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Ternopil, Zhitomir, as well as other localities in Ukraine.
