Chisinau, 10 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and PM of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov discussed the progress made in the bilateral partnership and possibilities of boosting the Moldovan-Azeri dialogue, with emphasis on the priority sectors, at a meeting in Baku today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The officials appreciated the results achieved during those 30 years since the establishment of the Moldovan-Azeri diplomatic relations. They expressed openness for the development of cooperation in the energy, economic, agricultural and investment sectors.

Natalia Gavrilita referred to the present economic potential between the two states. She stressed that, despite a positive tendency registered in the bilateral trade in the last time, this does not fully show the possibilities of collaboration Moldova and Azerbaijan avail of. In this respect, the Moldovan prime minister welcomed the organization of a Moldovan-Azeri meeting of business people. In the context of the discussions at this meeting, the sides will work out a joint plan of both countries’ needs, which can be mutually supplied. At the same time, Moldovan PM stressed the importance of diversifying the Moldovan products on the Azeri sales market.

„We have a huge potential of development of the economic and political relations between our countries. And just as we have reciprocally helped on the last period, I am sure that we will continue on the same way of friendship and cooperation.’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

For his part, Ali Asadov showed openness for the strengthening of the Moldovan-Azeri partnership and further consolidation of the present bilateral dialogue. ‘’Two prime ministers, two friendly countries will always have what to discuss and will always find new fields of cooperation. We are happy that, after a too long break, the work of the inter-governmental commissions was resumed and this only due to your efforts. At the same time, I want to thank you for the support provided to the Azeri citizens from Ukraine since the beginning of the war,’’ Asadov noted.

Another subject on the agenda of the discussions was focused on the energy crisis, with the sides highlighting the need to diversify the sources and routes of supply with natural gas. According to Gavrilita, Moldova is interested in the delivery of Azeri natural gas, at an accessible price, following the initiation of joint projects dealing with energy, as well as with the import of oil products from Azerbaijan, at competitive prices.

The sides also discussed the cooperation in the agricultural sector, possibilities for Moldova to buy fertilizers from Azerbaijan, as well as the carrying out of exchanges of practices in the wine-making sector, as the Azeri side is interested in Moldova’s rich experience in this field. At the same time, the officials analyzed possibility to launch a direct flight Chisinau-Baku-Chisinau.

In the end of the meeting, Natalia Gavrilita invited Ali Asadov to pay an official visit to Moldova.
