Chisinau, Oct. 12 /MOLDPRES/- A new water treatment plant was put into operation yesterday in Briceni. The installation with a hydraulic capacity of 1,020 m3/day was built as part of a project funded by the Czech government.

The sewage treatment plant is mechanical-biological and will ensure the cleaning of municipal wastewater, according to the modern standards valid in the European Union, not only in Briceni, but also in the neighboring towns.

"The technological process of wastewater treatment includes the stabilization and processing of sludge, and the waste treated with the use of special microorganisms for biological cleaning will be able to be used as organic fertilizers after pressing. The new treatment plant in Briceni will contribute to protecting the environment and the health of the inhabitants of the region", the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) said.

The value of the project is 2.1 million euros, money provided through the Czech Development Agency.
