Chisinau residents mark Dedication Day

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Chisinau residents today celebrate the Dedication Day – a day when the old-style Orthodox Christians mark the Holy Protection of the Mother of God.  

The events dedicated to the holiday started with laying of flowers at the monument to Ruler Stephen the Great. At the same time, Holy Liturgy was officiated at the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral.    

This year, the actions of the holiday will be organized during two days. Thus, on 14-15 October, fairs with handicraft objects and local ecological products will be staged on the Square of the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral.  

At the same time, the area with traditional dishes and native wines will be on the Stefan cel Mare Blvd, in the perimeter of the streets Vasile Alecsandri and Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu-Bodoni. Thus, representatives of 25 wineries are present at the event.   

On 14 and 15 October, more light and folk music singers and bands will perform on the Great National Assembly Square, on the occasion of the Chisinau Dedication Day.

On 14 October, the dedication day is marked in more settlements of Moldova. According to the Orthodox Church, the Miracle of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin took place in the Saint Mary of Blachernae Church in Constantinople during the Emperor Leo VI the Wise (886-912). The Mother of God appeared during an all-night-long vigil, surrounded by saints, praying to God for all the mankind.
