Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets counterpart from Luxembourg

Chisinau, 14 October /MOLDPRES/- The Moldovan diplomacy head, Nicu Popescu, has had a meeting with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.    

At the meeting of the national delegations, Minister Nicu Popescu informed about the continuation by the Moldovan authorities of the reforms’ agenda, with the intention to edify an as strong and democratic state as possible. The justice reform and the fight against corruption are in the focus of the transformations on the way of the European modernization.

„Along with the Luxembourg foreign affairs minister, we referred to concrete ways of strengthening our bilateral relation, which this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations.

We agreed on extending the commercial and economic cooperation, on boosting the investments and attracting tourists to Moldova.

We also discussed Moldova’s deeper integration in the European Union, connection to the European networks of energy, infrastructure and transport. To stimulate the inter-personal contacts and the business relations between our country and the EU member states, we would also like to cut the roaming tariffs,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.

The officials touched upon the dramatic consequences of Russia’s unjust war against Ukraine, a war which the Moldovan authorities condemn as firmly as possible, as they are co-authors of the resolution voted by overwhelming majority in New York. We discussed in detail the situation in the region and the impact on Moldova, including in the Transnistrian region, reiterating the financial and humanitarian support with the support of the Caritas partner.

„It is absolutely clear that Europe is united against the common threats and around the common values of peace, security and prosperity. In this spirit, Moldova will host the next meeting of the European Political Community, due in spring 2023, to which I reiterated the invitation to the Luxembourg side,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu added.
