Chisinau, 17 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, on a working visit to Chisinau. It is for the first time in the last 12 years when a Georgian head of state visits Moldova.

„I voiced hope that, with this visit, we will give a new impetus to the Moldovan-Georgian bilateral relations. We want a more intense cooperation in the commercial and economic sector and in investments’ attraction, as well as more cultural relations,’’ President Maia Sandu said during the bilateral discussions, the presidential press service has reported.

The two heads of state referred also to the complicated period the two countries were going through because of Russia’s war against Ukraine. ‘’I reiterated Moldova’s unconditional respect for the neighbor country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, within the internationally recognized borders. At the same time, I noted our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia which, just as Moldova, has unsettled conflicts on its territory,’’ the Moldovan head of state said.

Maia Sandu also stressed that the Moldovans and Georgians had clear European aspirations and the duty of the both states was to do everything, in order to speed up the fulfillment of the two people’s European dream. ‘’I am sure that the common values of freedom and democracy, along with the exchange of experience in the European integration process will help our countries advance in the European integration,’’ President Maia Sandu said following the meeting with Salome Zourabichvili.
