Moldovan foreign minister meets new head of OSCE Mission to Moldova

Chisinau, Oct. 19 /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration had a meeting with new Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Kelly Keiderling, who began her mandate in our country.

"I spoke with the ambassador about the current situation in the Transnistrian settlement process and the security situation in the region. I referred to the impact of the Russian Federation's military aggression against Ukraine on the functioning of the 5+2 negotiation format and the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol. At the same time, I drew the attention of the head of the OSCE Mission to the continuous worsening of the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region, requesting a more active involvement of the OSCE and its Mission in Moldova in this regard", said Popescu, according to the MAEIE press service.

The Moldovan official reiterated the consistent position of the Chisinau authorities on the peaceful settlement through political-diplomatic means of the Transnistrian conflict with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within the internationally recognized borders and with the granting of a special status for the Transnistrian region.

"At the end of our meeting, I wished Ambassador Kelly Keiderling success in her mandate, assuring her of the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs", Popescu said.
