Customs officer detained for influence peddling in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - An inspector of the customs checkpoint Hagimus (Causeni) today was detained in a file on influence peddling. The customs employee would have claimed 500 euros from a young woman for her employment.

According to the Customs Service, the suspect said that he would have influence on employees of the staff management department and that he would be able to persuade them to employ the woman as customs inspector at the North Office. The suspect would have received on this his account 10,200 lei (500 euros) by bank transfer from the account of the denouncer’s husband.

The mobile phone, bank card and other objects were raised following searches made at the home and vehicle of the suspect.

The customs officer was detained for 72 hours.
