OSCE Special Representative for Transnistrian Settlement to come to Chisinau

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian on 18 October had an online discussion with Ukraine’s Special Representative for Transnistrian Settlement Yuriy Klimenko, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

The officials exchanged information and opinions on a wide range of issues regarding the Transnistrian file and informed each other about the activities carried out, including about the recent visits by the Moldovan deputy PM to Berlin and Brussels. Oleg Serebrian informed Yuriy Klimenko that, following the discussions with his German interlocutors in Berlin, the organization of an international topic-related conference on the Transnistrian settlement was impossible this year. Yet, Serebrian voiced hope that, immediately after the improvement of the regional situation, decision-makers would return to the initiative to hold the concerned event. Also, the current regional situation does not allow the re-launch of the 5+2 format of negotiations; instead, the dialogue in the 1+1 format periodically takes place and the sectoral working groups meet more often.      

The special representative informed bout Ukraine’s position, formulated before the holding of the OSCE Ministerial Council, scheduled for next December. Yuriy Klimenko said that Ukraine’s stance had been communicated to Chairperson-in-Office's Special Representative for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, Mayr-Harting, during his visit to Kiev. This aspect is of major importance, given that Mayr-Harting will pay a visit to Chisinau in the near future. 

Deputy PM Oleg Serebrian noted that the efforts of Moldova’s reintegration must be adjusted with the dynamic process of the country’s European integration.   

The officials confirmed the commitment to continue the productive dialogue on aspects of the Transnistrian settlement and the regional situation.
