American lawmakers appreciate Moldovan authorities' determination to speed up reforms

Chisinau, 19 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met several members of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress, on a working visit to Chisinau. The discussion was focused on the regional security and the Moldovan-American relations, the presidential press service has reported.   

The head of state said that Moldova from the very first day had condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine and that continuous international efforts were needed to reestablish peace in Europe. President Maia Sandu noted that Moldova relied on the support of the USA, in order to reduce its energy dependence through the development of the renewable energy sector and to help the citizens cope with the high prices for energy in the forthcoming winter.

The American lawmakers appreciated the Moldovan authorities’ determination to speed up the reforms and go the European way. The head of state stressed that emphasis was put on the justice reform and combating corruption. Also, the leadership counts on the close cooperation with the United States, in order to bring to court those who had embezzled the country’s budget and presently were hiding from the Moldovan justice in the USA.
