Seedless grapes from Moldova become ever more demanded on international market

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - Opportunities of promoting the most suitable varieties of seedless tables grapes in Moldova have been discussed at a workshop organized by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Grapes from Moldova and the Scientific and Practical Institute of Horticulture and Food Technologies, in partnership with the High Value Agricultural Activity in Moldova (HVAA) Project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).          

According to the head of the aforementioned Association, Gheorghe Gaberi, Moldova has quite a few areas planted with seedless tables grapes, which do not allow supply at least the local market with these varieties. ‘’At the same time, the Scientific and Practical Institute of Horticulture and Food Technologies has copyright on more varieties tested in various regions of Moldova during years. Therefore, presently, producers of tables grapes, in order to diversify the assortment of grapes provided to consumers, must extend the areas of vine with varieties of seedless table grapes, which can be sold both on markets from the West and the ones of the East,’’ Gaberi said.       

For his part, a specialist at the USAID HVAA project, Andrei Botezatu, 30 hectares at the most out of all area of vine with table grapes from Moldova, which represents about 20,000 hectares, are seedless grapes. ‘’Out of the seedless varieties presented at the event the varieties roze Kişmiş Lucistîi and Black Autumn Royal have commercial perspectives, on condition that the research environment and the private one, with the support of development partners, define intensive technologies of producing these varieties of table grapes,’’ Botezatu noted.      

In the end, the participants summed up that the international market demanded ever more varieties of seedless grapes. Or, to be able to compete with the grapes producers from other countries, Moldovan farmers should diversify the spectrum of grapes’ varieties which they produce according to consumers’ requirements.
