Chisinau, Oct. 24 /MOLDPRES/- Over 100 volunteer firefighters from the Republic of Moldova participated on Saturday in the first edition of the Volunteer Firefighters Festival, held in Sireti, Străseni district.

According to Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, during the festival, volunteer firefighters participated in competitions specific to interventions in emergency situations. Thus, the firefighters developed and tested their capacities for risk and disaster management at the community level, as well as for prevention and timely response to emergency situations.

At the same time, the event offered the guests the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the measures to improve the legislation in the context of regulating the activity of volunteer firefighters, as well as to study opportunities for collaboration with the territorial posts of rescuers and volunteer firefighters from other localities in order to create a professional association, to represent the common interests and objectives of volunteer firefighters.

Attending the event were representatives from Stawiszyn, Poland, who in 2021 donated a special fire engine to the Sireți city hall. In order to strengthen the friendly relationship between the two localities, a collaboration agreement was signed between Sireți city hall and Stawyszin city hall during the event.

There are 78 territorial posts of rescuers and firefighters in Moldova, of which 22 are territorial posts of volunteer rescuers and firefighters.

The event was organized within the pilot project Strengthening civil protection capacities in Moldova, launched in March 2022 by the Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, in partnership with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the MAI.
