Moldovan government approves mechanism of providing allowance of 1,000 lei for children up to age of 2 years

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved amendments to the regulation on the way the allowances for families with children are established and paid. They will allow providing the monthly allowance of 1,000 lei to all children up to the age of two years, no matter the parents’ status of insured or non-insured people, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

Thus, the children up to the age of two years, whose parents or tutors are socially insured, will have right to allowance of 1,000 lei monthly, additionally to the allowance for bringing up the child till the age of three years, according to options. In the case of children whose parents or tutors are non-insured, the concerned allowance will be increased from 740 lei to 1,000 lei.    

The allowance will be provided to each child registered in the system of   Public Services Agency, including in the case of twins (two or three children born in a single pregnancy), adoption or placement of the child in the guardianship service.

To benefit from the payment of the allowance, the child’s legal representative (one of the parents or the tutor) will submit an application to territorial social insurances houses in a term of 12 months after the child’s birth.   

The insured people, who already receive monthly allowance for the bringing up or care of the child and whose children did not reach the age of two years, will not have to submit application, as the allowance will be automatically established by the National Social Insurances House.  

Concomitantly, the monthly support allowance for the bringing up of twin children is increased from 370 to 500 lei. The financial support for the taking care of twins is paid for each child starting the birth till the turning of the age of three years, according to the same procedure.   

To implement the aforementioned measures, about 77 million lei was allocated from the state budget for 2022 and about 805 million lei will be needed for the next year. According to estimations by the National Social Insurances House, in 2023, 65,133 people (28,949 – insured and 36,184 – non-insured) will benefit from monthly allowance for taking care of the child and 3,053 people – from monthly support for the bringing up of twin children till the age of three years.
