Moldova to receive grant for improvement of energy efficiency of more public buildings

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/ - As much as 12.4 million euros will be provided to Moldova for the carrying out of the Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project. To this end, the cabinet of ministers today approved a draft law for the ratification of the agreement on grant between Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB).    

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the agreement’s ratification and the implementation of the Energy Efficiency in Moldova Project will contribute to the improvement of the indexes of buildings’ energy performance, in particular, the improvement of buildings’ cover, heating and ventilation systems, implementation of illumination systems, distribution of  thermal energy and integration of renewable energy resources, when this is allowed from the technical viewpoint.     

The project’s beneficiaries will be the public institutions, the social ones, the republican hospitals, as well as the public institutions of local or municipal importance (kindergartens, schools, municipal and district hospitals).   

To carry out the Project, Moldova borrowed a loan worth 30 million euros on behalf of EIB and 30 million euros on behalf of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a grant for technical assistance worth 2.6 million on behalf of the European Commission’s Neighbourhood Investment Platform, as well as a grant of 500,000 euros on behalf of the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund. The Project’s overall budget is of 75.5 million euros, with a duration of implementation of four years (2022-2025).
