Chisinau, Nov. 8 /MOLDPRES/- A young woman from China represented the Republic of Moldova at the 43rd World Congress of Vine and Wine, held in Ensenada, Mexico, on 31 October- 4 November.

The event is held annually in one of the 48 countries affiliated to the World Organization of Vine and Wine. The event brings together scientists and grape and wine producers, who exchange knowledge on the cultivation and production process.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Chisinau, this year, Moldova was represented by Meiling Yao, who is a third-year postgraduate student at the Technical University of Moldova. She said she is proud to have been able to represent China and the Republic of Moldova at such an event.

"My speech was about bioprotection, the purpose of which is to replace sulfur dioxide in wine. I did this research under the direction of Professor Gheorghe Arpentin. I am very grateful to the governments of China and the Republic of Moldova for offering me a scholarship. I also thank the teachers of the Technical University and my colleagues for giving me help and courage. I hope to achieve great academic achievements in the Republic of Moldova and to successfully promote Moldovan wine at the international level," said Meiling Yao.

In an interview given to MOLDPRES Agency, China's Ambassador to Chisinau Yan Wenbin said that currently his country is one of the main export markets for Moldovan wine, which has become more appreciated by Chinese consumers.

"Wine is a dominant export product of the Republic of Moldova. Recently, at the initiative and with the support of the Embassy of China in the Republic of Moldova, a live broadcast for the promotion and sale of Moldovan wines took place on the Douyin platform, after which favorable results were obtained. The Chinese Embassy is actively promoting the export of Moldovan wine, together with the Chinese and Moldovan partners," said Yan Wenbin.

At the beginning of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Republic of Moldova, the value of trade was 70 thousand US dollars. In 2021, this increased to 849 million US dollars, China becoming the sixth trading partner of our country. In the first half of the year, the value of bilateral trade between the two countries reached 414 million US dollars, up by 5.78% than the same period last year.
