Moldovan president visits several villages from Prut meadow

Chisinau, Nov. 16 /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu yesterday visited three localities in the Prut meadow - Văleni, Brânza and Colibași in the Cahul district, where she talked to the people about their daily worries and the country's problems.

According to the presidential press service, Maia Sandu said that two years ago she would not have imagined that, in addition to internal problems, we would also have a war at the border, with multiple consequences for us. At the same time, she assured them that maintaining peace and security at home is our main concern.

The topic of our country's energy vulnerability was also addressed, especially the fact that for three decades no government has built alternatives for providing electricity, keeping the country dependent on the power plant in the Transnistrian region. Thus, only in 2021 was the first project initiated that will connect us to Romania's electrical system, but its construction will take several years. "Until then, we can bring electricity from Romania or other European Union states through Ukraine, and this creates major risks in a time of war. Just on Tuesday, due to Russia's barbaric attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, several localities in our country were disconnected from the electricity. Russia's brutal war in Ukraine affects us more and more," said Maia Sandu.

Other topics discussed include problems in agriculture and the need for small farmers to cooperate in order to reach foreign markets, as well as the importance of roads and township development. In this context, Maia Sandu appreciated the efforts of local authorities and the contribution of citizens to the implementation of projects in their communities, and recalled that all three localities will benefit from financing projects through the European Village Program.

"The support for the European integration of the country in the localities of the Prut meadow was and is still very strong. People strongly believe that Moldova's place is in the European Union and appreciate obtaining the status of a candidate country for the EU as a major step on this path", said Maia Sandu.
