Romania - largest EU importer of products from Moldova

Chisinau, Nov. 16 /MOLDPRES/- Among the countries of the European Union, Romania is the largest importer of products from the Republic of Moldova, the EU Delegation in Chisinau announced today.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, Moldova's exports to Romania amounted in 2021 to about 834 million dollars. The second most popular destination for Moldovan products is Germany, with a total value of around 246 million dollars, followed by Italy with over 240 million dollars.

"Romania was the leader in the EU in 12 out of 19 categories of products imported from the Republic of Moldova last year. Two of the largest categories are machines, devices, electrical equipment and their parts (about 15 million dollars), as well as products from the vegetable kingdom (approx. 138 million dollars). During 2021, Germany was the largest importer of furniture, bed linens, mattresses, pillows and lighting items from our country, their value reaching approximately 63 million dollars", the cited source indicates.

Italy leads the category of textile materials and articles delivered by the Republic of Moldova, with imports of about 119 million dollars in 2021, as well as leather materials and products, worth 15 million dollars. Honey and dairy products from our country are also preferred in Italy, bringing domestic producers sales worth about 3 million dollars last year.
