Chisinau, Nov. 17 /MOLDPRES/- Young people from all over the world are celebrating International Students' Day today. On this occasion, in university centers, including in our country, several activities are organized to draw attention to students' problems.

Anatolie Topală, Minister of Education and Research conveyed a congratulatory message "the Republic of Moldova is also rich in studious, talented young people with potential and performances recorded at the national and international level".

"We, like the whole world, are now experiencing dramatic moments that have a significant impact on people's lives. After the COVID-19 pandemic, we are facing an armed conflict at the country's borders. I am convinced that together, with the wisdom of the elders and the dynamism of the young generation, we will manage to overcome the crises and integrate into the great European family", he said.

Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, about 30 state and private higher education institutions operate in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, Taraclia and Comrat. Several of our country's universities are regularly included in world quality rankings.

November 17 was officially declared International Students' Day in 1941 by the International Students' Council to commemorate the events of 1939 in Prague, when the Nazi occupiers suppressed a demonstration by students at the Faculty of Medicine in Charles University, marking the moment of the creation of an independent Czechoslovak Republic. Following the suppression of the demonstrations, nine students died, and over 1,200 were sent to concentration camps.
