Two Ukrainians, one Moldovan detained for currency smuggling

Chisinau, Nov. 18 /MOLDPRES/- Two Ukrainians and a Moldovan company director were detained for smuggling currency from Europe worth about 400,000 dollars.

According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, about $400,000 was collected from them. The money is supposed to be brought to Moldova from European countries, but without being declared upon entering the country. The act of smuggling was uncovered on Thursday evening, in flagrante delicto, upon entering the country through Cahul. Several searches followed in Chisinau, where several sums of money were taken, which together represent about 400,000 US dollars.

The three men were detained for 72 hours. The main suspect is the director of a transport company from Orhei, 60 years old, who was traveling as a passenger in the transport and who entered the country with the undeclared sums of money. According to the criminal record, the money was later delivered to the other two men in Odesa, Ukraine.

PCCOCS notes that the criminal investigation is ongoing to set all aspects.
