Chisinau, Nov. 18 /MOLDPRES/ -Newly appointed ministers Dumitru Alaiba at the Ministry of the Economy and Rodica Iordanov at the Ministry of the Environment were sworn in today in front of President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The head of state thanked the former ministers for their effort and sacrifice and wished success to the appointed officials. Referring to the economic field, the president emphasized the need to carry out ambitious and courageous actions to promote the country and economic opportunities.

"Changes are necessary and they must be made in time. We are here to put the country on the right track. We must succeed in achieving progress in transforming the country into a viable democracy. We must succeed in laying the foundations of a healthy economy. Corruption and group interests are far from defeated, and business continues to be harassed by prosecutors and other public institutions. We need stronger action to address these issues, and economic recovery policies must go beyond handouts. We have no way of lifting the country out of poverty if we do not create favorable conditions for economic development. Business must be respected and supported, not harassed or ignored," said Maia Sandu.

Also, the President spoke about the efforts due to be taken in the environment: "To combat climate change and to ensure a healthy environment, we need real progress in the implementation of the national afforestation program and the waste management strategy. I hope to see this progress in the near future.”

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița encouraged the new ministers to show maximum openness towards the business environment and to make every effort to get through this period of crisis well, but also to support the European integration processes of the Republic of Moldova.

"The economic situation in our country is complicated. That is why I congratulate Mr. Alaiba for the courage to accept this position not only to manage the existing crises, but also to make the necessary transformations, such as serious deregulation that will reduce the cost of doing business and remove barriers in the interaction of the economic agent with the state. The increase in the number of economic agents means more jobs. I urge you to have an open communication with the business environment", said Gavrilița.

Referring to environmental priorities, the Prime Minister added: "Regardless of the crises of the day, let's not forget the long-term transformations that people are waiting for: greening, environmental health, water quality and waste management."

Previously, Dumitru Alaiba has held the position of MP, being the head of the Economy, Budget and Finance Commission, and Rodica Iordanov was state secretary at the Ministry of the Environment.
