Moldovan president meets Director General of French Development Agency

Chisinau, Nov. 22 /MOLDPRES/- On the sidelines of the working visit to Paris, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met yesterday with Director-General of the French Development Agency (AFD) Rémy Rioux. The head of state welcomed the opening this year of the AFD office in Chisinau and the support for several key sectors in the country, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu thanked for the financial assistance of 15 million euros to cover the needs of the budget in the social, health and education sectors, as well as for the 60 million that will come by late 2022, used for the railway and renewable energy sectors. Maia Sandu mentioned the support offered by AFD for the modernization of the energy infrastructure, which will allow us to align the Moldelectrica network with European standards, and the support offered by the Agency to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development for the modernization of the railway sector, including the restructuring of Moldova Railway company.
In terms of the sustainable development of the country, AFD will continue to provide support by carrying out projects in three key areas: the creation of electrical interconnections and the energy efficiency of buildings; greening and irrigation; modernization of water supply systems and sewage systems.
