Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/ - The perinatal centre from the northern Edinet town, which serves over 280,000 citizens, including from the districts of Briceni, Donduseni and Ocnita, has been endowed with modern equipment, provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with the financial support of the U.S. government. The ceremony on inauguration of the renovated maternity today took place in the presence of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, Ambassador of the USA Kent D. Logsdon and UNFPA Resident Representative in Moldova Nigina Abaszada.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the operation room of the maternity was capitally renovated and endowed with equipment worth 135,000 dollars. This donation will contribute to the reduction of the maternal and infantile mortality indicators in Moldova and will enhance the  access of women from Moldova and of those who took refuge from Ukraine to quality reproductive health services.

„Over 1,200 children are annually born at the hospital from the Edinet town. We want to create conditions for this number to constantly increase. Moldova must provide its citizens with modern medical services, of the highest quality and we will continue working for achieving this goal,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

The hospital from the Edinet district is one of those nine medical institutions endowed with equipment in the field of sexual and reproductive health. Thus, in October-November, hospitals from Moldova are endowed with advanced rescue equipment – operation tables and birth tables, operation lamps, anesthesia equipment, resuscitation tables for sections of newly born child’s intensive therapy and the gynecology sections.

Twenty operation rooms will be fully equipped, which makes that annually, over 15,000 births take place in safer conditions and newly born children in serious condition be rescued due to those eight units endowed with modern reanimation and intensive therapy apparatus. Also, the medical institutions are endowed with medical furniture and furniture for patients’ wards. The overall value of the equipment delivered by UNFPA is of 3.6 million dollars.
