Moldovan parliament joins UN Campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s parliament has joined the United Nations’ Campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This year, the campaign is held with the title, Unite! Activism to end violence against women and girls, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.     

Six big banners made of orange linen, with the colour symbolizing a future without violence for all girls and women, were set on the façade of the parliament building on this occasion, as a token of solidarity with the survivors of the gender-based violence. The banners deliver a message of raising the awareness titled, Choose a life without violence!      

„Each woman has right to be treated with dignity!’’ said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in his message addressed in the context of the UN campaign.  

Also, the Platform of Women MPs from Moldova’s Parliament on 24 November launched a campaign of informing and raising the awareness titled, The obstetric violence is also violence, as a token of solidarity with all women and girls who suffer from any form of violence.   

The Campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, is annually organized internationally on the period 25 November – 10 December, when the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the International Human Rights Day are marked. The events carried out within the campaign have the goal to raise people’s awareness about the phenomenon of violence against women as the most spread infringement of human rights in the world.      

In Moldova, the campaign launched by the United Nations takes place for the 21st year in a row.
