Exhibition in memory of departed Romanian scientist inaugurated at Chisinau-based museum

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled, Scientist Ovidiu Badina: Memory and Value, has been opened at the National History Museum of Moldova, occasioned by his 90th birthday anniversary.  

According to the organizers, this is a monographic, temporary exhibition, dedicated to an outstanding personality in the field of research and education - scientist, university professor Ovidiu Badina (1932-1999).   

The exhibition presents documents, photos, books, personal objects of the departed professor, which come from the museum’s collection, from private collections, a good deal of the exhibits being displayed to public for the first time ever.   

Ovidiu Badina studied at the Bucharest University, Philosophy Faculty, after which he continued his studies for doctor’s degree at the Lomonosov University from Moscow (1958-1961), getting the scientific degree of doctor of philosophy. In 1991, Badina came to Chisinau and on 24 July 1995, he received the citizenship of Moldova.   

In Chisinau, along with Paul Braun, Ovidiu Badina contributed to the setting up of the Academy of Economic Studies from Moldova. He created the National Institute of Sociology from Chisinau and, in his capacity of director of this institution, he organized and led numerous sociological researches in various fields of the economy, investigated and analyzed diverse social and political phenomena in Moldova, working out measures for practical actions.    

An adept of the Moldovan society’s democratization, of reforms, Badina initiated and took care of diverse scientific meetings in Chisinau and Bucharest, cycles and discussions, roundtables, with the participation of cabinet members, people of culture and science from both banks of the Prut river. In Moldova, Ovidiu Badina continued the work of Dimitrie Gusti, returning to the monographic research of the Cornova village and organizing a modern research in the summer of 1993. Badina led numerous sociological researches in diverse sectors of the country’s economy, laid the foundations of the sociological education in Moldova, with the professor’s sociological researches being multiple and varied.       

The exhibition will be opened till 23 December.
