Chisinau, 26 November /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister  Natalia Gavrilita and  European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius in Chisinau today signed the Association Agreement on Moldova’s participation in the European Union’s Programme for Environment and Climate Action (LIFE).

According to the PM, this agreement will help Moldova find sustainable solutions to the climate and environmental problems, in accordance with European Union’s strategies. ‘’The document signed will help us implement projects with innovating ways, due to contribute to the development of a circular, resilient and neutral  economy. The agreement sees the period 2021-2027 and has a budget of 5.43 billion euros. These funds will be able to be accessed also by potential beneficiaries from Moldova,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.

For his part, EU Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius said that Moldova’s accession to the European Union’s Programme for Environment and Climate Action would help the country approach the climate and environmental problems which EU was treating quite seriously and Moldova’s citizens would only take advantages from this, as this is a sound competition in the aspiration to what is better.

Virginijus Sinkevičius reconfirmed that Moldova would not be alone on its European way and in its international commitments, as EU and the European Commission were ready to provide Moldova with technical and financial assistance.

LIFE is the only programme of the European Union dedicated exclusively to the environment and climate changes. The stage due to be held during 2021-2027 is the most ambitious one so far. The programme is part of the Green Deal proposed by the European Commission.
