The document’s goal is to construct a system of aqueducts, due to undercross the Prut river for the supply with drinking water and purifying residual waters in settlements the districts of Nisporeni, Ungheni, Glodeni and Falesti. At the same time, the protocol on amendment changes some provisions of the basic agreement in the part regarding the placement of some aqueducts, for the flexibility in decisions and allowing the undercrossing of the Prut river also in other settlements, agreed upon by the Sides.

Under the Agreement, the investments on the territory of Romania and Moldova, up to the inter-connection points, including the crossing of the border, will be carried out by the regional operator of water and sewerage supply from Romania. They are to be correlated with the priorities set forth by the cabinet and the means available in the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL).

According to the Agreement, the investments on the territory of Romania and on the one of Moldova, up to the interconnection points, including the crossing of the border, will be carried out by the regional operator of water and sewerage supply from Romania and Moldova will pay the costs of connecting the settlements from the zone in which the aqueduct will be constructed.

At the same time, a regional development project titled, Improving the living standards of the rural residents through the construction of the interconnection aqueduct of the Prut river - Macaresti village with drinking water for 13 settlements of the Nisporeni and Ungheni districts, is under implementation from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development.
