Chisinau, 9 Dec. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița participated today together with EU Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks and about 150 women from the whole country in closing event of the Women for good governance Leadership Academy, 2nd edition. From November 2021 until now, the participants have learned how to get involved in the decision-making processes in their localities, to identify and solve the problems that people face, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Gavrilita voiced hope that the skills obtained within the Academy will inspire the participants to contribute to the development of the localities they represent, stressing that such programs are also important for promoting the involvement of women in decision-making processes at all levels.

"Each of the participants of the Leadership Academy can contribute to our common goal - to make the voice of women heard in every community in the Republic of Moldova. Each of you can, by personal example and assuming the role of leader, motivate and inspire other women. I am convinced that women can do everything and that there are no limits in capitalizing on one's own intellectual and human potential", said Natalia Gavrilița.

The prime minister also referred to the measures adopted by the Executive to strengthen the economic position of women. Thus, the legal framework regarding child care leave was made more flexible, rules were adopted that encourage mothers to return to work earlier.

At the same time, access to subsidies for the initiation of agricultural projects in rural areas was simplified, and in parallel with these proactive measures, steps were taken to combat gender violence, with the opening of the first Regional Assistance Center for child victims and witnesses of crimes.

Janis Mazeiks emphasized that the EU supports interventions in which the rights of girls and women are claimed, so that everyone can reach their potential to contribute to a better society: "When women are given equal opportunities, access to resources and decision-making, communities are more prosperous and peaceful. Equality between women and men is a fundamental value of the European Union".

The Leadership Academy was held in two editions. The project is implemented by the Friedrich Ebert Moldova Foundation and the Institutum Virtutes Civilis, with the EU financial support.
