Moldovan head of state, president of Swiss Confederation discuss bilateral relations

Chisinau, 12 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu had a discussion with President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis on her way to Geneva, where she participated in the Effective Development Cooperation Summit today, the presidential press service has reported. 

The interlocutors referred to the bilateral cooperation, the complicated situation in the region, the multiple crises faced by Moldova and the actions undertaken by the authorities to reduce their impact on the residents.   

„I thanked for the assistance provided by Switzerland in more sectors, including for projects on health, water and sewerage, development of local communications, environmental protection, development of the vocational education, Diaspora and culture,’’ the Moldovan president stressed.

Also, the head of state welcomed the dynamism with which the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) had advanced.  

„I thanked President Cassis also for the support provided by the Swiss side during discussions on the Free Trade Agreement with EFTA and appreciated the fact that the substance negotiations on the agreement are close to be finished. This agreement will contribute to the increase in the commercial exchanges with the EFTA countries – Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway,’’ Maia Sandu noted.
