Best sportsmen, coaches awarded prizes at Sports Gala 2022 in Moldova

Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/ - The best sportspeople from Moldova and their coaches today were awarded prizes by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala at the Sports Gala 2022, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.     

This year, 433 medals were got at a string of Olympic and non-Olympic competitions, at diverse age categories, which is a record result for Moldova. Also, for the first time in the country’s history, two persons became world champions: Anastasia Nichita in women’s wrestling and Serghei Tarnovschi – in kayak-canoe.   

The prime minister said that 2022 had been a year of success for the sport of Moldova and many ambitious young people, who are in the beginning of their career, are among the sportspeople who received prizes. The PM appreciated the results achieved by 15 paralympic sportswomen and sportsmen, stressing that the state was obliged to give all citizens possibility to fully participate in the sports life and to prove that no obstacle remains non-overcome, if there is will and perseverance.       

„Those whom we award prizes today are not only performers, but also benchmarks for their generation, true promoters of the sound and active lifestyle. You are the future of Moldova and the entire society looks at you with admiration, optimism and hope. At the same time, I would like to emphasize also the extremely important role of coaches. I rely on you to train new and new generations of sportspeople, who are to make us proud when our national anthem sounds on sport arenas in the entire world,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.      

The prime minister referred also to the difficult conditions in which sportspeople from Moldova are trained. Nevertheless, in 2023, the scholarships for the sportspeople performers will be doubled, rewarding the champions’ achievements more substantially. At the same time, in several days, sports events will start at the National Arena – a building which can host the sports federations. ‘’We also discuss the carrying out big projects of sports infrastructure and, despite the financial constraints, we will continue investing in sport,’’ the PM stressed.    

At the event, Sports Gala 2022, 66 sportspeople, two coaches, three teams, three federations and three sports journalists were nominated at 11 categories, among which The best young sportspeople of the 2022 year, Year’s Revelation 2022, Paralympic Sportspeople 2022.
