Moldova's Police General Inspectorate receives donation of vehicles on behalf of UN Refugee Agency, United States

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) today received a donation of 32 vehicles on behalf of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the U.S. government.   

At the event, Interior Minister Ana Revenco stressed that, for more years already, both UNHCR and the American government had been reliable partners of Moldova. ‘’The today’s donation represents one more proof that, on the difficult periods, it is important that we work together for the benefit of people. This assistance will consolidate the capacities of the police, in order to quicker intervene and to be closer to the citizens, including the refugees,’’ Ana Revenco said.  

For his part, Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent Logsdon thanked the Moldovan authorities for the providing of assistance to Ukrainian refugees. ‘’We are set to improve the Interior Ministry’s capacities, in order to back those directly hit by the war in Ukraine. We commit to cooperate with the Chisinau government and the country’s citizens, in order to cope with the immediate challenges and edify a prosperous ad safe future,’’ Kent Logsdon said.     

Attending the event, UNHCR representative Francesca Bonelli said that, with the unleashing of the war in Ukraine, the Moldovan government had provided an important support to refugees. ‘’This donation is provided as a token of solidarity. We thank you for the protection of those more than 600,000 refugees. You intervened quickly and responded to all needs of citizens from Ukraine,’’ Francesca Bonelli added.    

Those 32 vehicles are to replace the worn-out cars of the General Police Inspectorate. They will be delivered to the National Public Security Inspectorate, in order to enhance the safety of the road traffic and the one in community.
