More Moldovan Border Police employees receive money for illegal crossing of goods

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ - More employees of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police (IGPF) and the Customs Service are accused of having asked for and received financial means for the favouring of the crossing of goods across the border without customs control or with the carrying out of superficial control.   

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) unveiled information to this effect, following searches carried out at customs checkpoints on both sides of the Moldovan-Romanian state border today. Undercover agents were used for documenting the actions, with whose help, during more than one year, illegal actions of 14 IGPF employees and 11 employees of the Customs Service were established, for the committing of 117 corruption acts. The sums required varied between 100 and 900 euros.   

During investigations, 21 searches were made at the residences and job offices of IGPF and Customs Service employees. The concerned people were carried to PA for the carrying out of criminal prosecution actions.   

If found guilty, the suspects run the risk of getting up to seven years of imprisonment or fine worth up to 300,000 lei (about 15,000 euros), with the deprivation of the right of holding certain public offices or exercise a certain activity for a period of up to 10 years.
