Well-known Moldovan actor, humourist turns 75

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - Actor, stage manager, humourist and writer, People’s Artist Gheorghe Urschi, called ‘’the king of humour,’’ turned 75 years today.   

Gheorghe Urschi was born in the Cotiujenii Mari village, northern Soldanesti district, in 1948. In 1970, he graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute from Moscow. Urschi was actor at the Luceafarul Republican Theatre for Children and Youth. He played parts in more theatre plays and staged dozens of plays.   

During four decades of work, Gheorghe Urschi wrote books, signed several theatre plays, film scripts and made numerous programmes and concerts.  

Gheorghe Urschi is member of the Theatre Union and Writers’ Union of Moldova. He edited several short stories. Urschi also translated from the Russian literature and wrote poems for more songs and composed light music songs. He also signed and directed three movies.   

Gheorghe Urschi became famous also due to the TV programme, Teatru de miniaturi”,  (Revue Theatre), as well as concerts given in villages of Moldova, along with his wife, Maria Urschi, Gheorghe Parlea, Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici. The departed singer, Iurie Sadovnic, used to say that ‘’Gheorghe Urschi is a total artist, who deserves our everybody’s respect.’’     

In June 2011, the artist suffered from a cerebral vascular accident and was hospitalized for one year.  

In 2008, Gheorghe Urschi was awarded the Order of the Republic, in 2012, he was awarded the title of People’s Artist and in 2019 he was offered the National Prize. In 2014, at his birthday, Urschi became honorary citizen of the Chisinau city. On 1 April 2018, the humourist was paid homage at a show held at the Nicolae Sulac National Palace, on the occasion of his 70th birthday anniversary.
