Digital library to be created at Moldovan State University's headquarters with assistance of Japanese government

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - The State University of Moldova (USM) will implement a project for the creation of a digital library at USM’s headquarters, financially backed by the government of Japan.
According to a press release by the institution, USM Rector Igor Sarov and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yamada Yoichiro today signed a contract on grant worth 70,814 dollars, financed by the government of Japan within the Kusanone Programme of Grants in the culture sector.
The project’s goals are: transcription in digital format of the volumes of books, scientific works and manuscripts from the collection of USM’s Central Library; preservation of old and rare works; ensuring the access, in online format, to the library’s resources for students, professors researchers of Moldova and from abroad.
”The grant provided by the government of Japan will contribute to the purchasing of equipment for the scanning of books and management of data (scanning in the A2, A3 formats, computers, servers, sources of uninterrupted supply with energy),’’ the USM’s press release also reads.
The period of the project’s implementation is of one year.
