Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - Over 8,000 families which have bought dwellings within the First Home Programme will receive compensations from the government, in order to pay the monthly interest of the mortgage loan, as a result of the interest rate’s accelerated growth. At a meeting on 25 January, the cabinet will approve a decision on the compensation of the interest rate of up to four percentage points of the sum of the increase. Seventy five million lei was envisaged in the state budget for 2023 to this end.

The compensation will be allocated monthly on the period January-June, this year. The transfer of compensations for January will be made in next February. According to the government, if the mortgage loan is paid off in advance, the transfer of the compensation will cease starting the next month to the one when the last installment was paid.

To attenuate the impact of the economic crisis on the beneficiaries of the First Home Programme, the maximal margin applied by creditors was capped at 3 per cent. Last year, the cabinet earmarked additional resources for the compensation of 50 per cent of the increase in the interest for the period July-December.

As many as 8,101 dwellings have been purchased since the launch of the First Home state programme till present. The overall sum of loans provided by banks is of 4.43 billion lei and the total value of the active guarantees stands at 2.1 billion lei.
