Chisinau, Feb. 2 /MOLDPRES/- A draft law on revision of the legislation to simplify the procedures for the examination of criminal cases was voted today by 61 MPs in the second reading.
Under the document, there are three simplified procedures aimed at making the criminal process more efficient, such as the plea agreement, the judicial agreement in the public interest and the trial of the case based on the evidence administered during the criminal investigation phase. Thus, in the case of concluding a plea agreement, the accused person could benefit from one third of the punishment limits, if the court accepts the agreement.
The trial based on the evidence collected at the investigation stage can only take place if the offenders fully accept the charges, ask for the collection of new evidence or, if the proofs collected at the investigation stage, are sufficient to prove the blame of the accused. In this case, the punishment limit will be cut by one fourth.
In terms of the public interest judicial agreement, it will be applicable only to legal entities for committing crimes, such as tax evasion of enterprises, institutions and organizations, money laundering, active corruption, influence peddling, bribery.
