Chisinau, Feb. 6 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova has established its environmental policy direction for the coming years, aligned with the European Green Deal, which has a roadmap for sustainable development and the new model of the modern economy.

According to the Environment Ministry, this includes a number of important areas such as pollution reduction, biodiversity, food systems, sustainable mobility, clean air, water, energy, circular economy and others.

"Moldova supports the global environmental agenda of the EU through numerous initiatives at the international level, the climate neutrality of the EU for 2050 and the objectives in the biodiversity. It is of utmost importance to keep in mind that green transformation is a process, not an end in itself. It is a path to sustainable development, the balance of well-being and the possibilities offered by the environment that surrounds us", Environment Minister Rodica Iordanov said.

Head of the EU Delegation to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks stressed the importance of the transition to the green economy. "We support the Republic of Moldova to move to a sustainable development. As a candidate country for the European Union family, you will have to comply with all requirements and requests that are included in the European Green Deal and ensure the harmonization of Moldova's legislation with the EU acquis", said Janis Mazeiks.

The Environment Ministry actively promotes the green and circular economy in the policy documents, related to the implementation of the objectives of the European Moldova 2030 National Development Strategy. It is about the new Environmental Strategy by 2030, the Green Economy Program 2023-2027, the low emissions development strategy by 2030, the Eco-Labeling Regulation etc.
