Moldova managed to come out of cold period stronger, with unprecedented international support - PM says

Chisinau, Feb. 7 /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița had a meeting today with a group of MEPs from the European People's Party (EPP), led by Siegfried Mureșan, EPP vice-president and co-president of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Gavrilita described the economic situation in the country as a result of the war and multiple overlapping crises, which led to the rise of inflation, the loss of some outlets and the disruption of logistics chains. "Moldova is a collateral victim of Russia's aggression in Ukraine. We are facing a hybrid war. In the case of energy, practically all the risks have materialized, Gazprom cut gas supplies, but we managed to come out of the cold period stronger, with gas stocks, diversified sources of energy and unprecedented international support", said the premier.

Gavrilița spoke about the Government's efforts to stabilize the economy, simultaneously with the implementation of structural reforms, which would bring Moldova closer to the EU. The official listed the steps of the Cabinet of Ministers for the coming months and listened to the opinion of the MEPs regarding the developments in the region, at the same time thanking for the support offered to the Republic of Moldova.

Other topics addressed were the financial assistance received from the European Union, the opportunities within the meeting of the European Political Community, as well as the actions in the bilateral relationship, such as the cutting roaming tariffs, energy interconnection and others. The MEPs said that the Moldovan officials are expected in Brussels, to boost the discussions on the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

Participants in the meeting include David McAllister (EPP, Germany), Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET); Andrius Kubilius (EPP, LT), President of the EURONEST; Michael Gahler (EPP, DE), spokesperson of the EPP Group on foreign affairs; Andrzej Halicki (EPP, PL), vice-president of the Delegation to the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly; Rasa Juknevičienė (EPP, LT), Vice-President of the EPP Group, and Robert Golanski, Political Adviser of the EPP Group on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence.
