Moldovan premier discusses with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, at the Moldova-EU Association Council in Brussels, have discussed the structural reforms in justice, economy, public finances, fighting corruption and the steps taken by Moldova in the last months to fulfill the European agenda.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, besides the fulfillment of those nine conditions of the European Commission for starting the negotiations on accession, the Moldovan cabinet must prepare an action plan for the transposition of the EU legislation and the European institutions are ready to provide support in this process, EU Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi reiterated.
At the discussion, PM Natalia Gavrilita said that Moldova had made progress as regards the amendment of the legislation for the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), approval of the new Electoral Code, of the national programme on the recovery of the crime assets, as well as in terms of public investments projects.
„We need a reliable process of European integration, due to ensure the support of the EU member states for the launch of the negotiations on accession. Taking into account the fact that the European Commission’s package of enlargement for 2023 is to be unveiled in next autumn, we are set to achieve necessary progress till June, this year,’’ Natalia Gavrilita noted.
The prime minister also thanked the European official for the financial assistance provided by EU to Moldova. She specified that the Moldovan authorities were to finish, till late February, the conditions for the disbursement of the second installment of the macro-financial assistance package.
