Sweden's parliament to continue political support for Moldova's European agenda

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with his Swedish counterpart Andreas Norlén in Stockholm. The two parliament speakers discussed challenges faced by Moldova, having a war several kilometers far from the country and the dramatic consequences on Moldova. The officials also discussed priorities of the parliamentary agenda in Moldova, as well as the agenda of the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council (January-June 2023), the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.   

Igor Grosu thanked Speaker of Riksdag (parliament) Andreas Norlén for his participation, in last spring, in the Meeting of the Parliament Speakers from the Baltic and Nordic States (NB8). ‘’That visit, along with the other seven parliament speakers, encouraged us to be more determined in our country project – integration into the European Union,’’ the Moldovan parliament speaker said.   

During discussions, Igor Grosu appreciated the Swedish government’s contribution, worth about 14 million euros, announced as commitment within the Moldova Support Platform in Paris. At the same time, the parliament speaker received assurances that Sweden would continue to be with the citizens of Moldova.

During years, the Stockholm government has invested in diverse projects from Moldova, among which those from the IT sector, such the Tekwill Centre of Excellence in the field of Information and Communication Technology, as well as the e-Parliament system, in the medicine sector and in the carrying out of the country brand in the vine-growing sand wine-making sectors. ‘’Sweden was with us when Moldova was imposed embargo on behalf of Russia and, due to Swedish support, our wines now have got to compete on the most important markets of the world,’’ the parliament speaker said.  

The two speakers discussed also the subject on the creation of the Moldovan-Swedish parliamentary friendship group. ‘’I received assurances that the parliament of Sweden would continue the political support for our European agenda, especially during the Swedish Presidency of the EU Council and would guide us with expertise in the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission and the march of the reforms from Moldova,’’ Igor Grosu also said.   

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, along with a parliamentary delegation, is on an official visit to Sweden on 6-9 February, at an invitation by his counterpart from Stockholm.
