Moldovan rescuers arrived in earthquake-affected area in Turkey

Chisinau, 9 Feb. /MOLDPRES/- Today the Moldovan rescue team specialized in urban search and rescue arrived in the intervention area indicated by the Turkish authorities, in Hatay province on the border with Syria.
According to the IGSU, the rescuers received information about the intervention areas, and the actions to be carried out. Our country's team of specialists formed two working groups.
The first group will have the mission of surveying and searching for casualties, and the second group is setting up a fully operational field camp. They will be active 24 hours a day. They will use the heavy machinery and the specialized equipment. Also, two rescue dogs will be trained for search work.
At least 8,000 people lost their lives in Turkey, and 34,000 were injured after two strong earthquakes shook the southern part of the country on Monday. About 5,775 buildings collapsed as a result of the earthquakes. In support of the Turkish authorities, rescue teams from over 70 countries intervened on the spot.
