Anniversary exhibition dedicated to French writer Stendhal opened at Moldova's National Library

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of publications titled, Stendhal, investor of genius of the modern novel, has been recently opened at the National Library of Moldova (BNRM), on the occasion of the 240th birth anniversary of French writer Stendhal (1783-1842).   

According to the organizers, the exhibition comprises over 60 volumes from BNRM’s collection, original and translated, which show the life and works of this master of the psychological novel, precursor of the novel of the 20th century, among which Le Rouge et le Noir, (The Red and the Black) (1830), - an impressive study of character of an ambitious young man and at the same, a penetrating description of the French Restoration period, La Chartreuse de Parme (The Charterhouse of Parma) (1839), regarded by more specialists as the best novel of Stendhal, the biographical work, A Life of Napoleon, as well as books of travel to Italy and posthumous publications, such as Memoirs of an Egotist (1892), and The Life of Henry Brulard (1890).    

The event is organized by the BNRM’s literatures of the world section, which has the richest collection of French literature from Moldova, - about 17,000 titles.  

The exhibition will be opened till 12 February.
