Local passenger railway transport services to be improved in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ - The regulation on the railway passenger transport public services was published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) today. Under the document, the government will contract the passenger railway transport operators, in order to provide the residents with quality services and at an accessible price.   

Thus, the enterprises the task of which will be to fulfill the obligations of local passenger railway transport are to carry passengers according to the itineraries established by the cabinet. Passengers’ disembarking/embarking will be ensured at all railway stations, including in the geographical regions where the Railway of Moldova state enterprise no longer provides passenger transport services or ensures the trains’ movement with a small number of trains.  

In the second half of this year, the launch of the tender of bids of intent is planned. After that, decision-makers will suggest that the government accepts the conditions negotiated and the conclusion of contracts on the public services obligations. They can be concluded for a period of up to 15 years.

The contract which is to be negotiated with potential operators sees that the railway enterprises make available modern rolling stock, endowed with comfortable furniture, air conditioning systems, spaces accessible for people with disabilities, sanitary zones, devices which would show the train’s location and data about the next station.
