Chisinau, 14 February /MOLDPRES/ - The OSCE speaks out for the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict through a solution based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, within the internationally recognized borders, with a special status for the Transnistrian region. Foreign Affairs Minister of North Macedonia, OSCE chairman-in-office Bujar Osmani made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with his Moldovan counterpart Nicu Popescu in Chisinau today.

According to the North Macedonian foreign affairs minister, the 5+2 negotiations were suspended because of the war in Ukraine; yet, they remain the only agreed upon format for settlement. ‘’We support, in continuation, the meetings in the 1+1 format on important subjects. It is quite necessary for the discussions between the chief negotiations to continue. We want the deepening of the cooperation, strengthening the trust, promotion of peace and stability,’’ Bujar Osmani said.

For his part, acting Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu thanked for the support and effort made, in order to make progress towards the reintegration and keeping peace in Moldova. ‘’ In the last over 30 years, OSCE has had an important role in the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Negotiations do not take place at present, because of the war. Nevertheless, we want to maintain the dialogue and stability. We reconfirmed the attachment to the country’s peaceful reintegration, which we want to get through dialogue and diplomacy. We have the goal for Russia to peacefully withdraw its troops and weaponry, which are illegally deployed on the country’s territory,’’ Nicu Popescu said.

Foreign Affairs Minister of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani pays a working visit to Chisinau, in the context of his country holding the OSCE chairmanship-in-office. The visit’s agenda includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and acting Deputy PM for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian.
