National Reading Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, February 14 /MOLDPRES/- On National Reading Day and commemoration day of Grigore Vieru, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova conducts activities, aimed at promoting reading, encouraging reading as an effective tool to grow a healthy society.
Thus, in the morning, a meeting of the Homo Aestheticus Literary Club "National Reading Day" took place at this institution, moderated by writer Iulian Filip. The event was attended by representatives of the Presidency, the Parliament, the Government, culture and education, local public administration, writers, booksellers, librarians, mass media etc.
Attending the event, state secretary of the Ministry of Culture Andrei Chistol said that the National Reading Day is a very important event. "There is a need to increase the level of reading, but also to initiate a series of measures, programs such as National Reading Day to be celebrated every day in schools, kindergartens, libraries and cultural centers," the official emphasized.
Similar actions are carried out in several cultural institutions.
On March 31, 2022, Parliament decided to establish the National Reading Day on February 14, the birthday of great poet Grigore Vieru.
