MPs held minute of silence in memory of victims of earthquakes in Turkey, Syria

Chisinau, February 16 /MOLDPRES/- At the beginning of today's plenary session, MPs held a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the strong earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Speaker Igor Grosu sent condolences to all those affected by the tragedy and expressed gratitude to the rescuers involved in liquidating the consequences. "Moldovan rescuers immediately went on a mission to Turkey to shoulder the task of extricating and saving the lives of people in the affected localities. It's a moment of pride for our country, which once again has demonstrated that it has a big heart", he said.
On behalf of the Parliament, the speaker thanked the Moldovan rescuers for their attitude and involvement, for being with Turkey and Turkish people in these terrible moments. "We thank you for your dedication and we are waiting for you safe at home," he said.
At the same time, Grosu noted that the Ministry of Finance opened an account for the collection of monetary means as a donation to support the Turkish people, and urged colleagues of deputies, the Parliament Secretariat to join the action.
According to the latest information, more than 40 thousand people died as a result of the earthquakes that strongly affected Turkey, Syria, and other neighboring states. Currently, rescuers continue to intervene in the liquidation of the consequences.
