Ambassador of UK to Moldova announced in which cases V. Plahotniuc, I. Shor could make transactions in Great Britain

Chisinau, February 18 /MOLDPRES/- Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Moldova Steven Fisher announced in which cases Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor could make transactions on British territory.

In an interview given to the Agency, the official said that Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor were sanctioned based on the Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Regulations. "The British government found that there are records that would demonstrate their involvement in large corruption schemes. Thus, all movable, immovable and assets owned by the sanctioned citizens in the United Kingdom, and in overseas territories such as - Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands, will be frozen. Entry or stay of those individuals in the UK is prohibited," said Steven Fisher.

At the same time, the Ambassador emphasized that financial assets are frozen and no transactions can take place, except for legal consulting services, as individuals have the right to legal representation before the courts. "Thus, the sanction does not apply in the case of legal assistance requested by the persons concerned. Certainly, Great Britain will follow the situation in the Republic of Moldova to see if it is necessary to include other people in the list of sanctions, but it is very important that each case is argued at the legal level", said the official.

Late last year, the British Government announced a package of sanctions by which all assets owned by Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor in the United Kingdom and on the territory of the Kingdom will be frozen.
