Chisinau, February 18 /MOLDPRES/- Anti-corruption officers and prosecutors today carried out more than 20 searches in the case of illegal financing of the Shor Party. Following the raids, eight people were detained.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, the criminal prosecution actions took place throughout the country, at the residences of some members of the faction, who are involved in the reception and distribution of money in particularly large proportions to the heads and deputy heads of the territorial offices of the party, for the transportation and remuneration of citizens from different regions of the country to the protests organized by the group in September 2022 until now, including the protest planned for tomorrow, February 19.

The detained persons are charged with complicity in accepting party funding from an organized criminal group, a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison.

During the searches carried out on October 20 last year, prosecutors seized over 4.2 million lei (about 210 thousand euros) and 4,000 US dollars, and on November 2, 2022, over 320 thousand lei.

During the last months, with the help of special technical means, it was possible to collect facts about several episodes in which members of the organized criminal group transferred over 3.3 million lei, 61 thousand euros and 55 thousand US dollars to members and activists of the Shor Party. The money was meant to pay the people who participated in the protests, pay the transport and the enveloped salaries of the party members. At the same time, the evidence confirms that the money comes from sources prohibited by law. The prosecution is currently in its final stages.
