Tenth ordinary session of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 20 February /MOLDPRES/ - The tenth ordinary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is held in Chisinau on 19-21 February. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu gave a speech at the opening of the session.  

In his speech, the speaker said that it was an honour for Moldova to host such a far-reaching event and this was especially important in the current context. ‘’Unfortunately, during one year, we have had a war several kilometers far from us. At the same time, for the first time ever, we participate with the status of country candidate for EU. The today’s event is an opportunity for us to sum up our progress and an opportunity to consolidate and deepen our European choice. The Eastern Partnership is a success project for Moldova. It opened the borders for our citizens, strengthened and reformed out economy, edified commercial routes and brought beneficial changes for people. Due to the Eastern Partnership, our citizens travel without visas, our young people benefit from EU scholarships and our goods reach the European Union’s market,’’ Grosu said.       

The parliament speaker noted that Moldova was engaged in the consolidation of the relations with the other countries of the Eastern Partnership, which it fully carries out within the Euronest PA, which provides a framework of dialogue and consultancy, exchange of opinions and visions, as well as eventual transfers of experience on subjects of common interest.     

“The getting of the status of country candidate for accession to EU on 23 June 2022 repeatedly proved that we are on the right way. Really, a historical moment occurred, a crucial step on our way to EU. I know what we have to do, as we do the reforms underway, first of all, for the citizens and for our wish to live with dignity. We expect a long way; yet, we are more determined than ever to be part of the great European family,’’ Igor Grosu added.      

The parliament speaker highlighted that, on the last period, the EU member states, European Commission, European Parliament had acted together to help the Moldovan citizens overcome all impediments well. ‘’We are grateful to everybody for the solidarity and concrete support provided to us, Moldovans. We are determined to do our utmost to do our homework well – especially in the field of justice, fighting corruption, organized crime; we will ensure good conditions for the development of the business environment in regions and locally, in order to give communities the chance to enhance their well-being and flourish. We want Moldova to develop and we want this to happen quicker. For the 2023 year, we know that we have to work even more, we are set to enter the next phase of integration into EU and till the end of this year, to start the negotiations on accession,’’ Igor Grosu also said.
