Chisinau, February 21 /MOLDPRES/- New Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru met with judges of the Supreme Court of Justice /CSJ/. The meeting took place in the context of justice reform and the extraordinary evaluation of judges, as well as the resignations of several judges from the CSJ.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Justice, the judges who submitted their resignations, as well as those who did not renounce their mandate were invited to the meeting.

"The meeting aimed to examine the draft laws on CSJ reform and the situation created in the context of the resignations," the statement reads.

The minister said "he understands that there may be some concerns of judges regarding the evaluation mechanism, but the justice reform in the segment of checking the integrity of judges must continue, and it is a necessity."

"In the context of the resignations and the circumstances in which they took place, the public perception of the judicial system's resistance to the new laws is only fueled. Therefore, regardless of the reasons for the submitted applications, the public interest must be taken into account first and foremost, namely to ensure the functionality of the Court and the continuity of the examination of pending files, at least until the immediate start of the evaluation. The vetting procedure is different from the pre-vetting one, with additional guarantees being offered in the evaluation process, including the participation of the new CSM as a self-administration body in the judicial system, which has a defined role. That is why it is important for the CSJ to examine the appeals against the pre-vetting commission, for the General Assembly to take place, for a functional CSM to be established, for the judicial system to gradually return to its own ability to solve problems", said Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.

On February 14, the Superior Council of the Magistracy approved the dismissal requests of 15 magistrates from the CSJ.
