Moldova-EU commercial exchanges grow by 36 per cent in 2022

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The value of commercial exchanges between Moldova and the European Union, registered in 2022, stood at 6.2 billion dollars, up by 36.24 per cent against the 2021 year. Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba today announced data to this effect at hearings held by the parliament’s commission for foreign policy and European integration.     

The participants in the event brought for discussion the progress made in the process of implementation by the Economics Ministry of the Moldova – European Union Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). The economic development and digitalization minister also presented current priorities in the context of implementing the DCFTA Agreement: removing the import quotas for some Moldovan products, as well as the extension of the range of products which might be exported to the EU market; continuation of the regulatory reform; consolidation and development of the normative framework in the information field and stimulation of the economy’s digitalization.      

Attending the hearings was also the state secretary of the State Chancellery, Adrian Balutel, who unveiled the actions of harmonization stipulated in the government’s Activity Plan for 2023, as well as the needs of strengthening the inter-institutional capacities.      

On 4 March 2022, Moldova officially submitted the application on accession to the European Union. Subsequently, the European Council recognized Moldova’s European perspective and ruled to give Moldova the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union.
